They Like Jesus but Not the Church: Insights from Emerging Generations
By Dan Kimball

Hello Again

God has been teaching me a lot lately. I am reading They Like Jesus but Not The Church and also Outflow, and God is using both books to pound something into my head and heart. Basically it is this: my neighborhood is my mission field. God has placed me in the midst of these people and I need to look at it the same way is if I were oversees. I am trying to be creative in getting to know and love on my neighbors, but it isn't easy. It is cool though that we have a pretty small neighborhood, so I can focus on a smaller amount of people and really get to know them well.

In other news, I have been teaching at our church the past few weeks. We are doing a series on world religions. So far, I have taught on Postmodernism and Islam. Our church as four campuses, so I am going to a different campus each week to teach. Teaching is not one of my gifts, so this has been kind of nerve wracking for me. I have really enjoyed doing the preparation for the lessons, but not so much the teaching. We do have small group discussions afterwards though, and I enjoy that. What is cool though is that these kids are really liking the series. We have had a few kids as that we teach on more than just four religions. It seems like they really want to get to know about other religions so that they can build relationships with people different from them.

Whats Going On

Well it has been a while since i have posted so i have a lot to say.

Austin is loving his teaching job. The Brook Hill School is the best school ever! It fits us perfectly and we have already made several friends with other teachers (including one whose husband is a Bama fan! Roll Tide).

I now have a job. I start this Sunday as the director of girls ministry at Grace Community Church. I am really excited about hanging out with girls and walking alongside them in their relationship with Jesus. It is only part time, and at first, that was a negative quality of the job, but i am quickly realizing that it is a positive aspect. I hate working full time and i love the flexibility of part time. so to make up for not having enough money in a part time job, i am hopefully going to be substitute teaching at Austin's school.

I have been reading Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell (yes, i know, everyone in the world read this like a year ago, but i am just now getting around to it). I finished it yesterday, and for the most part, i liked it. i didnt agree with everything of course, but i was very challenged and encouraged by it. my favorite part was where he talks about "awe moments" in his life. so i was inspired to make my own list of awe moments and it was amazing. as i was making this list, i was reminded of all the amazing things God has done in my life. it was a really cool experience.

I am doing a painting inspired by our trip to Guatemala last summer and my new interest in environmental issues. Maybe i will post a picture of the finished product.

ok, thats all
